Bette Midler hammered for calling all West Virginians “poor, illiterate and strung out”

Singer Bette Midler is carrying a harsh tune for West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin after he refused to get on board with Biden’s Build Back Better infrastructure bill.

The rather expensive [to put it lightly] infrastructure plan’s demise caused Midler to lash out on Twitter, disparaging everyone from West Virginia in the process.

“He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and strung out,” she wrote.

Needless to say, there was some backlash.

“This is exactly what they think of good hardworking Americans that live outside of their elite bulls–t NY/LA bubbles,” Donald Trump Jr. replied.

Others pointed out that this wasn’t the first time such a thing has been said.

“She isn’t the only one but rather a representative of many,” another user wrote. “Remember this when you think about voting blue next time around.”

According to the New York Post, Midler eventually issued a “kinda-sorta” apology.

“I’m just seeing red; #JoeManchin and his whole family are a criminal enterprise,” Midler tweeted, asking if Manchin was “really the best WV has to offer its own citizens. ”

By then, however, the damage was done, and many accused her of backpedaling for the sake of PR.

“Sooo, when you get really upset your true inner voice comes out? Got it!” someone responded. “This is who you are and what you think.”
