Update: Nicholas John Roske, a 26-year-old from Simi Valley, California, has been identified as the man who made threats against Justice Kavanaugh, according to a spokesperson for the federal district court in Maryland.

“Roske indicated that he believed the Justice that he intended to kill would side with Second Amendment decisions that would loosen gun control laws,” according to the affidavit. “Roske stated that he began thinking about how to give his life a purpose and decided that he would kill the Supreme Court Justice after finding the Justice’s Montgomery County address on the Internet. Roske further indicated that he had purchased the Glock pistol and other items for the purpose of breaking into the Justice’s residence and killing the Justice as well as himself.”

He is charged with “attempt to murder a Supreme Court justice” and will appear before Magistrate Judge Timothy Sullivan on Wednesday afternoon.

US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was reportedly the target of a thwarted attack by a California man carrying a handgun, knife and pepper spray in Maryland.

The Golden State resident was particularly well-armed for a Californian, and was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“At approximately 1:50 a.m. today, a man was arrested near Justice Kavanaugh’s residence. The man was armed and made threats against Justice Kavanaugh,” SCOTUS said in a statement.

According to CNBC, the assailant made it clear to law enforcement that he was set on killing Kavanaugh, who was brought onto the Supreme Court under the Trump Administration.

Kavanaugh’s home has been a frequent target for protests, as have the residents of other conservative justices.

The US Marshals are currently providing round-the-clock security for SCOTUS justices in light of a rising threat level.
