A man is dead after a brazen act late Sunday night when he climbed through a Lauderhill home’s front window, confronted a man and woman, and was shot to death after he drew a gun on them, police said.
Somebody called 911 from a home on Northwest 23rd Street about 11 p.m. but hung up, and police were sent to the home where they found a man who said he had just shot an intruder, said Major Michael Santiago, a spokesman for the Lauderhill Police Department. The man said he and the intruder exchanged fire. The shooter, as well as a woman who police believe lives at the house, were cooperating with the investigation, Santiago said.
The intruder died at the scene. Neither the shooter nor the female were struck during the gunfire, Santiago said.
“The initial investigation suggests … they all knew each other. How they knew each other, I don’t know at this point,” Santiago said.
Santiago said police were back at the home Monday morning executing a search warrant to “collect any evidence that might add a piece to this puzzle.”
The name of the dead man has not been released.
