Indiana mayor arrested by FBI on corruption charges for taking kickbacks

The mayor of a central Indiana city has been arrested by FBI agents following new information in an ongoing investigation into city officials and money laundering.

Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler was arrested on Monday morning, after FBI agents arrived at his home.

FBI spokeswoman Chris Bavender stated that the US Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis would eventually release information about the charges.

The arrest was made following a probe into the city’s former building commissioner, who pleaded guilty to money laundering and wire fraud.

According to CBS News, the fraud related to the commissioner steering building contracts to his own companies, while pocketing the money given after doing work at inflated prices.

Tyler is a lifelong Democrat who has been the mayor of Muncie for two years shy of a decade, following a career in the Indiana House.
