Just another Windy City weekend: 51 shot, 7 killed in Chicago

While recent mass shootings have dominated the news cycle, the number of shootings that take place in Chicago seem to go relatively unnoticed.

Over fifty-one people were shot in the Windy City over the weekend, wounding 44 and killing 7.

Several of the shootings involved what appear to be targeted attacks between individuals and groups, while one incident reportedly took place during a basketball game.

Emergency rooms were inundated with patients, with one major trauma center ultimately having to go on bypass status for several hours.

In response to the massive wave of violence that swept the city’s 10th District, an additional 50 officers were brought in to patrol the area.

According to ABC7, a five year-old was also struck while riding in a vehicle, but is reportedly in stable condition.
