Kung fu foreplay ends with man dead, wife arrested

Jennifer Lynn Via

A West Virginia woman engaging in violent foreplay with her husband ended up accidentally killing him after a kung fu-themed romp went too far.

Jennifer Lynn Via pleaded guilty on Monday to voluntary manslaughter in the death of her husband, Thomas Via, who she stabbed in the back with a 14-inch-long decorative dagger in 2017.

Via reportedly told authorities several different versions of the story behind her husband’s death before admitting she took their sex life a little too far- seven inches, to be precise.

“My husband and I liked to fight and have sex and then make up, if that’s the right way to say that,” she said. “He wasn’t supposed to get hurt, but it did happen.”

The dagger penetrated seven inches into his back, nicking his heart and causing him to bleed out internally.

“As strange as this is, they watched these Kung Fu movies and it led to, what I would tell a jury, foreplay, which was both of them getting pretty violent with each other while playing with weapons,” defense attorney Kerry Nessel said. “That’s what led to this.”

Despite the death, Via wasted no time attempting to take out life insurance on her husband.

According to the Herald-Dispatch, Via is currently residing at Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.
