A North Carolina man reportedly won a judgement in court against his ex-wife’s lover during a messy divorce, netting him $750,000 in damages.
Kevin Howard, who utilized the alienation of affections law, AKA the “homewrecker” law against his ex’s lover, claiming that the man disrupted his marriage.
AOA laws allow individuals to go after those found to interfere with one’s union, particularly in the case of infidelity.
A private detective revealed the bad news to Howard, who had been married for 12 years when she found out he was being cheated on.
“He was a colleague of hers from work,” Howard said. “He ate dinner with us several times, we spent time together.vI thought this was a friend.”
According to CNN, Howard then blamed the “other man” for the damage done, and a judge just so happened to rule in Howard’s favor.
For Howard, justice has been served.
“I believe in the sanctity of marriage,” he said. “Other families should see what the consequences are to not only breaking the vow to whatever religion you subscribe to, but also your legal responsibilities.”
