A Wisconsin man asked for one more chance to have a beer with his sons before he died, setting in motion a touching “Kodak moment” that reached deep into the collective heart and soul of the internet.
Norbert Schemm, who served in the US Coast Guard and died at 87 years of age after a bout with colon cancer, had asked for one last thing before he went- a chance to kick back some beers with his three sons.
Soon, the three sons converged upon their father’s hospital bed, where they shared a few bottles of Bud Light.
According to the Daily Mail, the photo was shared by on of the sons of WhatsApp before a grandson posted it to social media.
“My grandpa had been relatively healthy over the course of his life but it was on the Sunday last week while he was in hospital that they realized it would be the end,” said Adam Schemm, Norbert’s grandson. “He called his grandchildren to tell us on Monday. We took the picture Tuesday night and then he died from stage four colon cancer on Wednesday. My dad told us that grandpa had wanted a beer and now when I look at that picture it gives me solace.”
The incident took the hearts and minds of the internet by storm, soon accruing over 320,000 likes and 30,000 retweets.
