A police officer from Ogden New York put his own life on the line to rescue a dog trapped in freezing water.
The dog apparently fell through the ice crossing a moderately frozen portion of the Erie Canal.
The officer, who was out on patrol, heard the dog whining and walked out on the ice to help save the dog.
It’s unknown how long the dog had been paddling in the water.
Police say the dog, named Dallas, was exhausted and hypothermic.
According to Spectrum News Rochester, Dallas was left outside by his owner and was able to escape after the wind blew the gate open.
