Popular LGBT professor at ASU revealed to be a hoax, perpetrated by activist Vanderbilt professor

An LGBT professor at Arizona State University allegedly died of coronavirus under reportedly unsafe working conditions- which would be a tragedy if it were actually true.

Known as @Sciencing_Bi on Twitter, the alleged educator seemingly checked all the “woke” blocks, as she was described as an LGBTQ Native American Anthropology professor at Arizona State University.

Academics and activists around the world frequently interacted with @Sciencing_Bi for several years, until a recent post by former professor and #MeToo activist BethAnn McLaughlin reported that the “professor” had died of coronavirus.

“Sad to report @Sciencing_Bi died from COVID this evening,” McLaughlin wrote on July 31, 2020. “She was a fierce protector of people. She let me take my shoulders away from my ears knowing she was meaner and more loving than everyone else. No one has ever had my back like that. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

According to Heavy, McLaughlin cited the non-lockdown procedure of ASU as the reason @Sciencing_Bi got sick and denounced the university for not ceasing operations.

However, ASU has no record of anyone matching @Sciencing_Bi’s description, and Twitter has shut down both McLaughlin and the mystery account on their platform after it became suspected that McLaughlin may have been @Sciencing_Bi- which means she was also masquerading as a fake Native American professor.

McLaughlin claimed she and @Sciencing_Bi were going to get matching Native American-themed tattoos and that the “deceased professor” was the victim of lax coronavirus restrictions.

“Please read her timeline. She was forced by her university to teach in person until April,” McLaughlin tweeted. “Campus closed and she was in the hospital a week later. Be mad about COVID but be more mad that BIPOC community is most vulnerable and underrepresented on campus. We are killing them.”

Aspiring Leftist Academic alleged on their Twitter page that “people trying to look for ASU press releases on the death found that every photo posted by sciencing_bi was a stock photo, and that the only person who communicated with them outside of twitter DMs was [McLaughlin].”

In short, @Sciencing_Bi likely never existed, and is believed to have served -and “died” a martyr- as a second megaphone for McLaughlin.

McLaughlin is known for being the person who convinced the site RateMyProfessors.com to remove its red hot chili pepper rating for “hot” professors, as well as other acts of activism. Interestingly, ASU has been working on a “fake news”-spotting algorithm AI known as Defend, which allegedly began development earlier this year.
