Social media influencers using civil unrest as backdrop for more attention

As American cities remain littered with smoldering ash and broken glass in the wakes of protests, yoga-pant clad women of Instagram are making a point to pose in front of the chaos for clicks.

In what could be considered a good case of how social media encourages narcissism to the extreme, “influencers” have been filmed posing in front of looted stores and damaged properties.

One woman, captured on film by user @ewu and shared by Ava DuVernay, even pretended to help put up protective boards over windows before getting into her boyfriend’s Mercedes and driving away.

Similarly, user Joe Kinsey also shared a video showing a social media influencer posing in front of a shop while sporting yoga pants and a sports bra.

“Get that IG content ladies,” he wrote.

The location of both instances is unclear, but one thing is for certain: some people will do anything for attention.
